It’s a new school year and we are all excited! We are looking forward to a great year. We had a wonderful turn out for our back to school night. Thank you for your participation and support. We discussed our program, class schedule and school policies. There were many questions about the program and the materials used in the classrooms, specifically in the practical life area. The practical life area is the foundation for the Montessori education. In fact, it is the starting point for all children entering the Montessori classroom.

The child must begin in the practical life area to learn how to adjust and adapt to the environment. In fact, the success of any classroom relies mainly on the practical life activities. Dr. Montessori states, “ Without this freedom to use them at any time, it would be almost impossible to bring into being that living ‘rapport’ between the children and their environment.” The practical life exercises enable the child to refine his gross and fine motor skills. These exercises are designed to teach the child life skills. This is very important to the child because he has the need and desire to do activities that the adult routinely performs. The activities help improve on the child’s dexterity, hand-eye- co-ordination and spatial awareness. As the child voluntarily repeats the necessary movements for these activities he develops the ability to concentrate which lead to independence. Movement or physical activity with the practical life exercises is an essential factor in intellectual growth. As we progress through out the school year you will begin to see your child’s independence begin to emerge and transfer into his daily routine activities both at home and school.

We appreciate your interest and enthusiasm and look forward to many more of our scheduled field trips and school functions.

Enjoy every moment!
